When Do We Saw

If volunteers are available, the museum saws for prescheduled group tours. The museum also saws for prescheduled out of market tourists. However, the museum cannot guarantee operation of the mill for your visit as antique machinery and volunteers both sometimes have other plans.

What to expect on a sawing day

  • Depending on the log, devote 30 to 40 minutes of the tour to watching the sawing
  • When enough volunteers are present, a docent will add commentary
  • You will see logs turned into lumber from different angles
  • It can be loud and smelly
  • View the effort it took to saw logs in the 1920s
  • Purchase fresh cut lumber

What we do with the lumber

  • Sell the lumber in slabs or by the board feet
  • Make benches and special order products
  • Supplement museum exhibits
  • Sell to craftsmen for birdhouses and toys

Our Volunteer Sawyers

All of our sawyers are volunteers. If you are interested in scheduling a sawing for your group, please keep in mind that it is at the behest of these wonderful volunteers. It takes at least three to four sawyers to safely saw. They try their hardest to saw:
