Free Summer Programming for Kids!
This summer we will be hosting a free series of summer programming from June 7th until August 9th 2024. This programming was funded by the River Bluff Community Foundation and aims to serve the youth of Clinton, Camanche, and the surrounding area. We would like to invite you to join in on this series of programs! The first three programs are outreach are programs from the National Mississippi River Museum & Aquarium in Dubuque.
When: Fridays, from June through August from 10:30-11:30am Where: The Sawmill Museum 2231 Grant St., Clinton, IA Who: Local area students in grades 2nd-5th WITH an adult/chaperone (children may NOT be dropped off for programs!) Participating in the programs DOES NOT INCLUDE admission to the museum! How to Register? To register your child please call the museum at 563-242-0343. Children are required to be accompanied by an adult for the programs. We ask for one adult for every 5 kids. We will need:
You can sign up for as many of the programs as you would like. Registration ends Friday 5:00 pm one week prior to the program and you can sign up early for programs. For example, for the June 7th program you need to be signed up by 5:00 pm May 31st when the museum closes. |
Schedule
June 7th: Mississippi River Life (Dubuque) Explore the animals that live along the Mississippi River through hands-on items. Program includes live animals. June 14th: Pioneer Living (Dubuque) Explore what daily life was like for kids in the pioneer era through games and chores (such as churning butter!) June 21st: Furs and Lead (Dubuque) Examine how settlers travelled and traded along the Mississippi River as they encountered Native Americans and wildlife along the river. June 28th: Rhythms of Music Explore music from around the world through song, learn about how music connects us, and play instruments. July 5th: NO PROGRAM DUE TO THE HOLIDAY July 12th: The Age of Trees Learn how to determine the age of a tree through counting its rings and discover differences in types of trees and wood. July 19th: Owl Pellet Dissection Dissect your own owl pellet as we discuss what owls eat and what makes them great predators. July 26th: Pollinators Make your own mason bee home, plant a pollinator garden, and learn how these animals help make the natural world beautiful. August 2nd: Animal Ecology Discover how animals vary through furs, skull replicas, and tracks. Learn about how each animal plays a role in the ecosystem. August 9th: Survival Skills & Campfire Learn how to tie knots, make a paracord compass bracelet, and plants to look out for in the wild! We’ll end the summer with an outdoor campfire and s’mores. |
